Native or cross-platform: how to decide

Cross-platform (Flutter, React Native) produces one codebase for both iOS and Android. It is the default choice for most business and consumer apps: one build, one maintenance track, simultaneous updates on both platforms.

Native (Swift, Kotlin) earns its cost when the app leans heavily on hardware or system APIs: intensive video processing, augmented reality, advanced Bluetooth, demanding graphics.

In practice cross-platform covers nearly every SME need. Scoping exists to confirm your project is not one of the exceptions.

An app alone is never enough

What people see is the app. What makes it work is less visible: an API for the data, a database, authentication, a back-office to manage content, push notifications, and usage analytics.
