What DevOps actually means for an SME

The word suggests large-scale architecture. For a Moroccan SME it means something more concrete: your site or ERP has to stay online, update without breaking, and come back quickly when something falls over.

Three questions sum it up. Who restarts the server on a Sunday evening? When was the last backup successfully restored? How long does it take to get back online after an outage? A company that cannot answer all three has no infrastructure — it has luck.

The backup that counts is the one you restored

An untested backup is not a backup, it is an assumption. We have seen them fail at the exact moment they were needed: truncated file, incomplete database, password lost along with the server.

We set up automated backups, stored away from the production server, and restored periodically to prove they work. That is the only proof worth having.

Deploying without downtime

Releasing a new version should neither cut the service nor be frightening. An automated deployment pulls the code, builds the application, switches over and restarts — identically every time, with the previous version kept in case of trouble.

That is what separates a routine update from an evening spent undoing a manual mistake.

Server in Morocco or in Europe?

In Morocco: lower latency for local visitors, a host reachable in your own time zone, data on national territory.

In Europe: wider offering, proven availability, often better value for equivalent resources.

For a marketing site the difference is barely noticeable. For an ERP used all day by your teams, proximity is felt. We run both and advise based on actual usage, not on principle.
